Schoeller Arca Systems signs a US$ 1,4 billion contract to supply plastic pallets to US company iGPS
Schoeller Arca Systems, the world market leader for plastic material handling systems, announces today that it has signed a new long term preferred supplier contract with iGPS, a US-based pooling company for plastic pallets. Under this agreement, Schoeller Arca Systems will supply 4 million RFID-tagged (RFID = Radio Frequency Identification) plastic pallets per annum, doubling the annual volume of the previous contract. The new, five year contract, represents a value of approximately US$ 1.4 billion.

Companies are becoming more aware of the benefits of the plastic pallet compared to the wooden version. Schoeller Arca Systems’ pallets are easy to handle, fire retardant and environmentally friendly. The iGPS pallet system, designed in The Netherlands, will change the way goods and services are transported by removing costs out of the supply chain. It will lead to a widespread usage of plastic pallets worldwide. At this moment, there are around 100 million wooden pool pallets circulating in the US of which 25% will be replaced by plastic systems in 2012.

In 2006 the first order of 100,000 pallets was signed, followed by a second one of 1.0 million pallets that same year. In May 2007 iGPS ordered to produce 2 million pallets per year and now a new 5 year contract is signed to supply 20 million pallets in the next 5 years.

”We are very proud to have signed this deal with iGPS. They were looking for a manufacturer who could provide them with a robust plastic pool pallet developed for the American market, and they could choose among several American manufacturers and Schoeller Arca Systems” said René Wolfkamp, CEO of Schoeller Arca Systems. “This contract marks an important step in our strategy to further increase our market share in a growing market characterized by a more widespread usage of plastic pallets worldwide.”

“Schoeller Arca Systems is the ideal strategic partner as we launch the world’s first RFID-tagged all-plastic packaging systems pallet pool”, said Bob Moore, CEO of iGPS. “Made to our exact specifications, the pallets meet or exceed the most rigid pooling standards and will provide manufacturers and retailers with the lightweight, hygienic and reliable supply-chain solution that they demand.”
