Mongolia – Oyu Tolgoi LLC in cooperation with the Ministry of Mining and Heavy Industry (MMHI) and the Mongolian National Mining Association (MNMA) organised an Open Day and training sessions on Occupational Safety for Health and Safety officers of the mining companies and residents of Zaamar soum, Tuv aimag, Mongolia. Mr A.Delgersaikhan, head of the Geology Unit, Geology and Mining Policy Implementation and Coordination Department, MMHI gave an opening speech. In addition Mr D.Enkhbold, Executive Director of the MNMA, also delivered a speech on responsible mining.

Oyu Tolgoi ran pre-training surveys involving employees of 19 registered and artisanal miners operating in the soum in order to develop a tailored training program, and provided the training using hologram training for risk awareness and modern technology in order to raise the awareness of occupational safety, demonstrate and share Oyu Tolgoi’s safety culture and and best practices.

A team of over 20 members of the Oyu Tolgoi Underground Training team provided basic training to the community members and employees of the mining companies on building a safe working environment, equipment safety and their usage, risk and fatigue management as well as working at heights training. In addition, career advice to high school students and age-appropriate safety tips to the kindergarten aged children were provided. A total number of more than 400 people participated in the event and expressed their gratitude in obtaining useful knowledge through use and demonstration of advanced training technologies.

Previously, Oyu Tolgoi LLC, in cooperation with the National Emergency Management Agency, donated a set of fit-for-purpose fire-fighting protective clothing and equipment to a volunteer fire-fighting unit of Zaamar soum as part of a wildfire prevention project - Save the Lifesavers.
