TIE Holding N.V. (“TIE”) reports that it is engaged in the European Unions Omelette project which aims at improving the internet as a global delivery platform with a specific focus on converged services in the telecom domain.

The Omelette project, funded by 9 European and Chinese partners, including technology providers, industrial users, research institutions and also the European Commission was officially launched during a kick-off meeting held in Madrid, Spain, October 2010. The project will last for 30 months with a budget of € 5.6M and representing nearly 600 man-months of activity. TIE participates in the project and will receive research funding from the EU to the value of € 410K.

The convergence of Content Services, Telecom, and IT drives new emerging service markets based on an open Internet of Services. Offerings, combining services from more providers, are called mashups and appear to become very successful. The Omelette project addresses this trend that empowers the internet to become a global service delivery platform with unlimited reach. Telecom and media industries will profit from this developing global and immersive market. The technologies underlying each of the different mashup types are heterogeneous, which makes integration challenging and which is where TIE fulfils a role coupled with our experience of content syndication.

“OMELETTE will create a sound model of Mashups that can guarantee portability and interoperability among different vendors and versions,” said Saul Navarro, Omelette Coordinator and R&D manager of Grupo Gesfor based in Spain. “TIEs knowledge of interoperability, standards, its leadership within the NESSI Software and Service technology platform, as well as its leading role in content syndication market makes TIE an extremely interesting partner within the project”.

Jan Sundelin, CEO of TIE, says: “TIE has built up a good reputation of being a great partner and moreover one with extensive and innovative expertise within the service and content worlds. As these worlds converge within mobile environments, and telecom company’s expand their scope, TIEs participation both reinforces others appreciation of our expertise and at the same time allows TIE to investigate how the Telcos convergence may impact our future business models, services and products”.
