Pakistan Steel appoints Corus Consulting for expansion study

Pakistan Steel has awarded a contract to Corus Consulting for the preparation of a feasibility study into Pakistan Steel’s proposed expansion in two stages from 1.1 mtpy to 4 million tonnes. Corus Consulting will also be responsible for drawing up tender documents and for tender evaluation. Work is scheduled to start towards the end of September and is expected to take about six months to complete.

At a ceremony to mark the signing on July 29 Liaquat Ali Jatoi, minister for industry and production said the planned expansion would cost around $1 billion and create 7,000 to 8,000 jobs and would help provide cheaper steel particularly to the housing sector.

The agreement was signed by Pakistan Steel chairman Lt Gen (Retd) Abdul Qayyum Khan and by Corus Consulting MD Rod Jones.
