Reuters) - General Electric Co (GE.N) is expected to report a 33 percent rise in first-quarter profit on Thursday, with improved performance at its finance arm more than offsetting roughly flat results at its big industrial units.
The largest U.S. conglomerate has been cutting back its GE Capital unit, which Chief Executive Jeff Immelt wants to represent 30 percent to 40 percent of earnings, rather than the more than half it generated before the 2008 financial crisis. "The big swing factor is what comes through on the GE Capital side," said analyst Brian Langenberg of Langenberg & Co, looking forward to the earnings report. "I don't see anything in any of the industrial units that's going to move the stock. It's going to be about what happens at Capital."

April 21 (Bloomberg) -- Publicis Groupe SA, owner of the Leo Burnett and Saatchi & Saatchi ad agencies, said first- quarter sales rose 11 percent on business in North America and Europe as well as growth in digital activities.
Revenue increased to 1.29 billion euros ($1.9 billion) from 1.16 billion euros a year earlier, the Paris-based company said today. Analysts had predicted sales of 1.28 billion euros, the average of three estimates compiled by Bloomberg. Digital operations and business in emerging markets accounted for 48.3 percent of sales in the quarter. The company has a medium-term target of earning 65 percent of revenue from the two segments.

DEN HAAG (AFN) - De verkoopprijzen van bestaande koopwoningen zijn in maart met 0,2 procent gestegen ten opzichte van de maand ervoor. Dat blijkt uit donderdag gepubliceerde cijfers van het Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek (CBS) en het Kadaster. Het gaat om de eerste stijging sinds zeven maanden. Tot dusver daalden de huizenprijzen steeds ten opzichte van de maand daarvoor. Verkochte bestaande woningen waren in maart gemiddeld 1,1 procent goedkoper dan in dezelfde maand vorig jaar. De prijsdaling is kleiner dan in februari toen de verkoopprijzen 1,5 procent lager waren dan een jaar eerder.

The median forecast of 12 analysts polled in the past two days for the average price in 2015 was $1,700 an ounce, up 12.7 percent from the record of $1,508 struck on Thursday. The price forecasts ranged between $1,000 and $2,750, but even if prices get to the top of that range, they would probably rise at slower rates than in the previous two years, or increases of 30 percent in 2010 and 25 percent in 2009.

The Ifo institute in Munich said its business climate index, based on a survey of 7,000 executives, dropped to 110.4 from 111.1 in March. Economists expected a decline to 110.5, according to the median of 38 forecasts in a Bloomberg News survey. The index rose to 111.3 in February, the highest since records for a reunified Germany began in 1991.

Reuters) - Oil giant Sinopec (0386.HK) on Thursday signed China's second-largest gas purchase agreement, worth around $85 billion over 20 years by one estimate, in a deal that also gives it 15 percent of an Australian gas-export project. Sinopec will pay $1.5 billion for the stake in the Australia Pacific liquefied natural gas (LNG) project, completing a preliminary deal agreed in February with project developers ConocoPhillips (COP.N) and Australia's Origin Energy (ORG.AX). ConocoPhillips and Origin announced the deal at a joint news conference overseen by Australian Resources Minister Martin Ferguson. "Australia very shortly become the second-largest exporter of LNG in the world and we have effectively now got a very important new industry in Queensland," Ferguson said, referring to the northern state where the project is to be built. Australia has around $200 billion in LNG projects on the drawing board. Much of their exports are destined for China, which is looking to lock in supplies to feed its rapid growth and cut its reliance on polluting coal energy.

U.S. Existing Home Sales (Mar) came in at 5.10 million, up from 4.88 million February and ahead of the 5.00 million consensus, in what the National Association of Realtors called a “decent” month.
Japanese Exports (Mar) decreased by 2.2% due to manufacturing disruptions caused by the earthquake and tsunami, a bigger drop that economists had expected.
The dollar value India’s Exports (Mar) grew by 23% month over month and 44% year over year, driven by manufacturing improvements in the U.S. and Europe and increasing prices for exported goods.

Putting a silver bullet into sceptics. Gold hit a record high of US$1,500/oz, busting through the psychological barrier, taking cues from silver as it races towards US$50/oz. viable target.Meanwhile, silver prices are outperforming gold by leaps and bounds. In fact, Mineweb goes as far as saying silver is expected
to be the most lucrative precious metal of 2011. A big part of the silver price boom stems from the fact that silver isn't a mere
“precious metal” any longer – it’s also an industrial metal. In fact, around 40% of silver is used industrially – in solar batteries, water purification systems, cellphones, circuit boards, plasma TVs and radio frequency identification devices (RFIDs).
By 2015, it’s estimated that global industrial demand for silver – largely driven by India and China – will increase 36%, from 487 Moz in 2010, to 665 Moz. Couple that with very tight supply – and you have exponentially rising silver prices and a tremendous growth opportunity for investors.

In de algemene vergadering van aandeelhouders van Koninklijke Ten Cate nv op donderdag 21 april 2011 is het dividend over het boekjaar 2010 vastgesteld op € 0,75 (2009: € 0,60) per gewoon aandeel van € 2,50 nominaal.
Het dividend wordt naar keuze van aandeelhouders geheel in contanten beschikbaar gesteld dan wel in gewone aandelen ten laste van de agioreserve. Op de uitkering in contanten zal 15 % dividendbelasting worden ingehouden. De waarde van het stockdividend zal de waarde van het contante dividend met 0 tot 3 overtreffen. Notering ex-dividend zal plaatsvinden op woensdag 27 april 2011. De record date voor het dividend is vastgesteld op vrijdag 29 april 2011 na beurs. Aandeelhouders wordt tot 15:00 uur CET op vrijdag 20 mei 2011 via hun bank of commissionair de gelegenheid geboden hun keuze met betrekking tot het keuzedividend kenbaar te maken. Zo spoedig mogelijk daarna wordt de omwisselverhouding van het keuzedividend bekendgemaakt. Het dividend wordt vanaf woensdag 25 mei 2011 betaalbaar gesteld.

April 21 (Bloomberg) -- The index of U.S. leading indicators increased for a ninth month in March and Americans’ confidence rose for a fourth week, signaling the expansion may withstand higher fuel costs. The Conference Board’s gauge of the outlook for the next three to six months rose 0.4 percent after a revised 1 percent gain in February that was larger than previously estimated, the New York-based group said today. The Bloomberg Consumer Comfort Index climbed to minus 42.6 in the period to April 17, the best reading since the end of February.

April 21 (Bloomberg) -- Capital One Financial Corp., the top performer this year in the KBW Bank Index, said first- quarter profit surged 60 percent as fewer credit-card borrowers defaulted. The firm rose in New York trading.
Net income climbed to $1.02 billion, or $2.21 a share, from $636.3 million, or $1.40, in the same period a year earlier, the McLean, Virginia-based company said today in a statement. Results exceeded the $1.54-a-share average estimate of 22 analysts surveyed by Bloomberg. Loan-loss provisions fell 64 percent to $534 million as charge-offs declined, the firm said.
