Authorities said another person, a former employee of Dell Inc, had pleaded guilty on December 10 to charges he had provided inside information about the company from late 2007 to August 2010 to research firms and hedge fund managers. The case stems from a more than two-year investigation of hedge funds that intensified on November 22 when federal agents raided Loch Capital Management in Boston, Diamondback Capital Management in Stamford, Connecticut and Level Global Investors in New York. All said they were not targets of the probe.

Royal DSM N.V., the global Life Sciences and Materials Sciences company headquartered in the Netherlands, today announces that - in accordance with applicable IFRS accounting standards - the remaining impairment of approximately € 55 million for DSM Anti-Infectives will be reversed in Q4 2010. This reversal of impairment will be reported as an exceptional item in DSM's Q4 2010 results, which will be published on 23 February 2011.
This reversal is caused by the improved business outlook for DSM Anti-Infectives related to the new strategy Leveraging partnerships for growth in addition to own initiatives like the new 6-APA plant in China. This reversal is a non-cash item.

Dec. 17 (Bloomberg) -- Santos Ltd. agreed to sell stakes in its Australian liquefied natural gas project to Total SA and Korea Gas Corp. for A$665 million ($660 million) to help fund a development estimated to cost $16 billion. Korea Gas and Total will each buy a 7.5 percent interest in the Gladstone LNG venture, Australia’s third-biggest oil and gas producer said today. The project will also supply 3.5 million metric tons of the fuel a year to Korea Gas starting in 2015. “This is what the market wanted,” Mark Greenwood, an analyst at Citigroup Inc. in Sydney, said by phone today. “They wanted another customer to provide some validation for the project and Kogas is the largest LNG customer in the world, a top-tier buyer in Asia. That’s a big tick in the box.”

LUXEMBURG (AFN) - Het handelsoverschot van de eurozone is in oktober opgelopen tot 5,2 miljard euro. Dat maakte Europees statistiekbureua Eurostat vandaag bekend. Daarmee was het overschot 400 miljoen euro groter dan een jaar eerder. In september overtrof de uitvoer van de eurolanden de invoer met 2,6 miljard euro. De export van de eurolanden nam in oktober met 0,1 procent af ten opzichte van de voorgaande maand, de import nam met 1,3 procent toe. In de hele Europese Unie werd in oktober een tekort gemeten van 7,4 miljard euro. Dat is 1 miljard euro meer dan een jaar eerder. In september bedroeg het handelstekort van de 27 lidstaten samen 11,8 miljard euro.

LUXEMBURG (AFN) - De bouwproductie in de eurozone lag in oktober op hetzelfde peil als in de voorgaande maand. Daarmee kwam een einde aan een periode van drie achtereenvolgende maanden waarin de productie afnam, zo bleek vrijdag uit nieuwe cijfers van Eurostat. Gemiddeld werd nog altijd bijna 7 procent minder gebouwd in de eurolanden dan in oktober 2009. Die daling was echter minder groot dan in de twee voorgaande maanden, waarin de productie met gemiddeld 8 procent afnam. In de hele Europese Unie nam de bouwproductie in oktober met 0,5 procent toe ten opzichte van de voorgaande maand. In vergelijking met oktober 2009 werd in de 27 EU-lidstaten gemiddeld 1,9 procent minder gebouwd.

Reuters) - Stock in Bank of Montreal (BMO.TO) plunged on Friday after it announced a deal to buy a U.S. Midwest bank for $4.1 billion in an all-stock deal that will be funded in part by the issue of new shares. Shares in BMO, Canada's fourth-largest bank, fell 6.12 percent at the open to C$58.25 after the bank announced plans to buy Marshall & Ilsley Corp (MI.N), the biggest bank in Wisconsin. BMO said it would raise about C$800 million ($792 million) in additional equity before completion of the acquisition.

Dec. 17 (Bloomberg) -- Irving Picard, the trustee liquidating the failed investment firm of Bernard Madoff, has collected about $9.8 billion for victims of the fraud, including $7.2 billion that two people familiar with the case said will be paid by the estate of philanthropist Jeffry Picower. Victims of Madoff’s Ponzi scheme, the largest in U.S. history, have claimed losses of principal totaling $20 billion, and paper losses -- including fake profits -- of about $65 billion. Picard has filed lawsuits over the past two years seeking the “clawback” of more than $50 billion.

Reuters) - News Corp is set to win European Union regulatory clearance to acquire full control of dominant British pay-TV group BSkyB without the need for concessions, a source familiar with the case said Friday. News Corp, which also owns British newspapers the Sun, sister paper the News of the World and the Times and Sunday Times, wants to buy the 61 percent of BSkyB it does not already own for 7.8 billion pounds ($12.19 billion) to consolidate the business it helped build. The European Commission will say next week that the deal does not have any significant anticompetitive impact, said the source, who did not want to be otherwise identified because of the sensitivity of the issue.
