BHP has partnered with C-Res and the Local Buying Foundation to launch a new program called Trading Tracks, aimed at supporting Indigenous businesses and fostering economic growth across the Pilbara.

The initial three-year?pilot program, administered by Indigenous Management Group,?will?support?Pilbara Indigenous businesses via training and advice on all aspects of business development, ranging from crafting a robust business plan, to tender, HSEC and strategic support.

Chris Cowan, Head of Global Indigenous Procurement, launched the program at the Pilbara Summit saying the program is focused on driving transformational change.

“With our long-term partner C-Res, who delivers BHP’s Local Buying Program, we’re proud to continue supporting the growth and sustainability of Traditional Owner and Indigenous businesses in the Pilbara. We heard from suppliers that it can be difficult to navigate the available services, so we hope that Trading Tracks will bridge this gap and enable Traditional Owner and Indigenous Business to access the support they need for their growth and sustainability,” Chris said.

Indigenous Management Group’s Managing Director, Judd Harris, is a Wongutha man from the Goldfields, and is passionate about working with Aboriginal enterprises that enhance local communities.

“Over the coming months, our team’s focus is on designing an approach that is responsive to the local context and has the foundations of respect, collaboration, and impact. We will be engaging Pilbara Traditional Owner groups throughout the program, and with Kariyarra, Palyku, Yinhawangka, Nyiyaparli, Nyamal, Banjima peoples as we establish our presence,” Mr Harris said.

The South Hedland Hub officially commenced its operations on October 11, with two dedicated staff members working from the office.

The staffing and facilities for the Newman Hub are still in the process of confirmation, and the Hedland staff will temporarily cover services for Newman.
