Roxgold Inc. secured a 10-year exploitation permit to develop and operate the Seguela gold project in Ivory Coast.

The Toronto-based company said Dec. 16 that early works are underway at the site to enable a ramp-up to full construction in 2021. Initial work includes upgrading the site access road, building an accommodation village and front-end engineering of the processing plant.

Roxgold expects to complete a feasibility study and make a mine construction decision in the first half of 2021 and is targeting initial production in 2022.

The company said permitting for the project is nearly complete, pending the completion of the mining convention negotiation process, and discussions with the government are ongoing.

Roxgold agreed in early 2019 to acquire Seguela and a portfolio of other assets from Newcrest Mining Ltd. for $30 million.
