Fugro has been awarded contracts to carry out investigations for major infrastructure projects in Turkey, the USA and Hong Kong, with a combined value of approximately Euro 23 million.
- Infrastructure project Izmit Bay Bridge in Turkey
Fugro has been awarded a contract by the joint venture NÖMAYG (NUROL, ÖZALTIN, MAKYOL, ASTALDI, YÜKSEL and GÖÇAY) in Turkey for site investigations and consultancy work for a major infrastructure project on the Izmit Bay Bridge in Turkey. The project, to start immediately, has a value of Є 11.9m and will extend into the third quarter of 2010.

The contract involves onshore and offshore geophysics, drilling for samples, seismic studies, geological mapping, geotechnical laboratory testing and earthquake engineering. With these specialised services Fugro will assist NÖMAYG, who has won the concession to design, build and operate the 421-kilometer Bursa-Balikesir-Izmir Highway Project in Turkey. The project includes the Izmit Bay crossing which will have a suspension- bridge that is located in the North Anatolian Fault zone, one of the world’s most active plate boundaries

Fugro has recently also been awarded the following contracts

USA contract for pavement structure data collection and inventory

Fugro has acquired a Euro 6.5 million, 3-year contract from the State of California, Department of Transportation (Caltrans) to provide Highway Pavement Structure Data Collection and Inventory services. The data will be used to create a geographically referenced inventory of construction details including pavement layer thicknesses and material types for the entire state highway network.

Fugro will collect the data on approximately 81,500 lane-km of highways within California, using their Automatic Road Analyser Vehicle (ARAN), which includes a number of integrated measurement subsystems and operates at highway speed.

Major nearshore soil investigation contract in Hong Kong

The Highways Department of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region has awarded Fugro a contract to carry out a major nearshore site investigation for the Hong Kong Boundary Crossing Facilities (HKBCF) associated with the new Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge.

The contract, which has a value of approximately Euro 4.5m, will provide essential information for the design of the facilities to be built on a reclaimed area of about 150 hectares to the east of the Hong Kong International Airport at Chek Lap Kok. The reclamation works for the HKBCF, which will be used for passenger clearance and cargo processing, is scheduled to start in the third quarter of 2010. Fugro will carry out the works using a fleet of up to seven barges and jack-ups.
