January 16, 2015 - ARCADIS (EURONEXT: ARCAD), the world's leading natural and built asset design & consultancy firm, today announced its involvement in the Crossrail 2 project. Crossrail 2 is a proposed new south-west to north-east rail line providing services between Hertfordshire and parts of Surrey and Middlesex via a new tunnel under Central London between Tottenham and Wimbledon. The Central Section of the scheme requires 36 km of new railway line, the majority in tunnel, 13 underground stations and two over ground stations. There will be major new connections to the existing rail networks National Rail and London Underground at Euston, Tottenham Court Road and Victoria. The estimated capital value of the scheme is £20bn.

Transport for London (TfL), under the Engineering and Project Management Framework, has awarded the contract for Package 1 - Technical/Engineering to Hyder Consulting (the subsidiary of ARCADIS), in association with ARCADIS Europe and EC Harris. The initial commission for Phase 1 is to develop the multi-disciplinary engineering feasibility and cost study to enable the selection of a preferred Crossrail 2 route to be taken to Public Consultation for a Comprehensive Spending Review (CSR) application to the Department of Transport (DfT). This will enable TfL to progress the scheme to Phase 2 which involves a Statutory Consultation in 2016 and Phase 3 which will involve client and authority approvals by December 2017 followed by the detailed design and implementation phases with construction commencing in 2020. TfL has the option to extend the Phase 1 commission of ARCADIS and Hyder to include Phases 2 and 3.

For this first phase of the project ARCADIS with Hyder will be providing multi-disciplinary advisory services for tunnels, portals and route works, stations, systems and operational robustness and for cost and risk.

"We have won this competitively tendered project against a number of very capable teams, thanks to the combined engineering strength of Hyder and ARCADIS, coupled with the commercial advisory services offered by EC Harris," said Stephan Ritter, the Executive Board member of ARCADIS responsible for infrastructure. "We agreed to pursue this opportunity together and the fact that we won it fully underlines the significant capability and expertise of the combined firms."
