ARCADIS (EURONEXT: ARCAD), the leading pure play global engineering and consultancy firm, announced today the Nassau County (New Jersey) Department of Public Works has selected a Joint Venture of ARCADIS and Hazen and Sawyer, P.C. to provide program management services to stabilize, design and rebuild its wastewater collection and treatment systems, which received unprecedented damage and flooding during Superstorm Sandy in October, 2012. The $2 billion dollar program includes already completed emergency response and repair work, which took place immediately after the storm. Expected gross revenues for ARCADIS related to this contract amount to approximately €30 million.
Already on site when the storm hit, ARCADIS and its JV partner worked with the recovery and repair team non-stop in the six weeks following the storm to assess damage to major electrical systems, pumping facilities and processes which were flooded and partially submerged with salt water. By December 14, the team had met all of its milestones for the emergency actions and had successfully restored the Bay Park Sewage Treatment Plant to full secondary treatment capacity.
For the next three years, ARCADIS and its JV partner will provide consulting, preliminary design, pre-construction, construction and post-construction services to mitigate the effects of future storms across 5 waste water treatment plants and over 30 pump stations within the Nassau Wastewater system. This includes extreme weather hardening designed to endure a storm event with a 500-year return period.
According to ARCADIS Global Business Line Director Water, Eleanor Allen, "ARCADIS is leveraging its unparalleled expertise in resiliency and wastewater system design to provide Nassau County with a system that exceeds expectations for environmental compliance, efficiency and the ability to weather future storms. The new design integrates flood protection with multiple lines of defense to protect the plant from extreme weather events."
