• Qualcomm Life’s 2net Platform to provide medical-grade connectivity and integration for Philips and third-party medical devices for Philips HealthSuite connected care solutions and services

Amsterdam, the Netherlands and San Diego, CA – Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG; AEX: PHIA) and Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM) through its subsidiary, Qualcomm Life, Inc., today announced a strategic technology collaboration to advance connected health across the health continuum -- from healthy living and prevention to chronic care management and home care. The companies are teaming up to leverage each other’s respective leading capabilities – Philips’ leadership in connected health informatics and regulated health care cloud data management and analytics, and Qualcomm Life’s expertise in secure, medical-grade device connectivity and integration. This collaboration will enable both companies to offer care providers enhanced, scalable, connected care solutions and services within a secure global ecosystem.

Qualcomm Life’s 2net Platform will serve as the medical device connectivity solution for Philips HealthSuite, the company’s cloud-enabled health ecosystem of devices, apps and digital tools. By joining the Qualcomm Life 2net Ecosystem, Philips provides its HealthSuite users seamless access to a wide array of connected medical devices including medication dispensers, medical grade biosensors, ventilators, blood pressure monitors, point of care self-tests, and blood glucose meters.

Philips will leverage the 2net Platform to connect both Philips and third party medical devices. Secure connectivity, data capture and transmission powered by the 2net Platform, 2net Hub and 2net Mobile, will enable HealthSuite users to customize and scale connected care programs, add additional medical devices and gain a fuller patient profile over longer periods of time, with the aim to support timely intervention, assist in diagnosis, personalize treatment plans and help contribute to the goal of improving patient outcomes. An example of an implementation of this connectivity collaboration will go live shortly with Philips’ Trilogy ventilator family and Care Orchestrator care management application to advance care for patients with COPD and other respiratory conditions.

As part of the collaboration, Qualcomm Life will leverage Philips HealthSuite as a global, secure, data management and storage solution for its medical-grade 2net Platform, allowing Qualcomm Life to tap into the value of health data through data normalization, aggregation and analytics. Qualcomm Life customers can now have direct access to build applications, integrate with electronic health record systems, store normalized data, run analytics, and manage authorization and consents in a compliant and secure environment.

“As the home is fast becoming a viable care setting, care providers, home health agencies, and other institutions are increasingly using connected care to reduce emergency care, readmissions of patients with chronic diseases,” said Jeroen Tas, CEO, Connected Care and Health Informatics at Philips. “By collaborating with Qualcomm Life and leveraging its connectivity and wireless expertise, we aim to help care providers to engage better with their patients and contribute to the goal of improving outcomes. Patient self-management combined with 24/7 connectivity to a care network is an emerging model that enables scalable chronic disease management for patients and providers.”

“An undeniable leader in the health care technology industry, Philips brings a deep technology expertise to their health care initiatives, and by joining forces we aim to deliver intelligent care to patients and providers at scale,” said Rick Valencia, president, Qualcomm Life, Inc. “We are thrilled to be working with Philips, enabling Qualcomm Life to continue to grow its ecosystem and ultimately serve as the underpinning of the Internet of Medical Things.”

Jeroen Tas and Rick Valencia will deliver keynote presentations at Qualcomm Life’s connected health ecosystem conference, Connect 2016, on August 31, in San Diego, CA. Gavi and Philips team up to improve immunization data quality in developing countries

New York, US - Gavi the Vaccine Alliance and leading health technology company Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHIA), announced today that they have signed a letter of intent to jointly develop scalable digital transformation plans aimed at improving the quality of immunization data and its collection in primary and community healthcare. Their joint goal is to help Gavi supported countries improve the planning, coverage and impact of immunization programs. The partnership was announced at the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data event in New York.

Routine immunization has played a key role in more than halving the annual number of child deaths since 1990. Nevertheless, around 1.5 million children under the age of five still die every year from vaccine-preventable diseases. Gavi and Philips have a shared vision that robust health IT infrastructures and the digital transformation of immunization data are key to more resilient health systems. Through the use of new health IT solutions for the development of improved data collection, and new models for better planning, Gavi and Philips will offer interested countries their complementary expertise to help maximize immunization coverage and effectiveness by identifying children who are missing out on vaccination programs.

“By working with Philips we plan to protect more children by improving the quality of immunization data,” said Gavi CEO Dr. Seth Berkley. “Weak data leads to poor planning, often meaning that children, whether they live in urban slums or remote rural outposts, miss out on vaccines multiple times because health workers simply don’t know where to find them. I am pleased that Philips will bring its experience in connected healthcare informatics to help us tackle this problem.”

“We are convinced that partnerships, such as this one with Gavi, are paramount to realizing the goal of universal health coverage for all, especially among children,” said Jeroen Tas, CEO, Connected Care and Health Informatics at Philips. “Thanks to the digital revolution, we can now start doing what was previously unthinkable: enable access to care, improve patient outcomes and lower healthcare costs., Our vision for the partnership is that we will put our strengths in connected health, data analytics and population health management to further good use, by helping Gavi and the countries it supports to confidently identify and effectively immunize children, no matter where they live.”

Working in partnership with interested Ministries of Health, Gavi and Philips will bring together a multidisciplinary team of clinicians, researchers, designers and digital experts to collaborate on developing a shared vision and plan, tailored to local needs. Philips will leverage its HealthSuite Labs methodology to co-design, prototype and apply new technologies to improve service outreach and enable accurate bottom-up forecasting of immunization needs. In addition, Philips and Gavi aim to develop data-driven feedback mechanisms to help improve decision making and identify the children that would benefit from vaccination.

The partnership announced today with Philips is another example of how Gavi aims to step up its data strengthening activities and further address some of the fundamental weaknesses in data collection systems in Gavi countries across the globe. It also supports Philips’ aim to improve the lives of three billion people a year by 2025 by making the world healthier and more sustainable through innovation, as well as the company’s commitment to the universally agreed United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals, especially those aimed at ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages, and encouraging sustainable consumption and production patterns.
