Iron and steel exports to United States fell less sharply than total German iron and steel exports

WIESBADEN – Since 12 March 2025, the United States has imposed additional tariffs of 25% on imports of iron, steel, aluminium and goods made thereof. On 4 June 2025, the additional tariffs were raised to 50%. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that Germany exported iron, steel and goods made thereof to the value of 2.5 billion euros to the United States in the period from January to August 2025. Compared with the same period a year earlier, exports of these commodities to the US were down 2.3%. The decrease in iron and steel exports to the US in the first eight months of 2025 was therefore less pronounced than the decline in Germany's total iron and steel exports, which fell by 4.8% to 39.9 billion euros year on year. This is the lowest value for the first eight months of a year since 2021, when Germany exported iron and steel products to the value of 36.7 billion euros.

Producer prices of industrial products (domestic sales), September 2025

WIESBADEN – The producer prices of industrial products were 1.7% lower in September 2025 than in September 2024. In August 2025, the year-on-year change rate was -2.2%. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that producer prices in September 2025 dropped by 0.1% compared with the previous month.
