News 7/4/25 Oyu Tolgoi Ranks No. 1 on TOP-100 List for Third Consecutive Year for Its Contribution to Mongolia’s Social and Economic Development

In 2024, Oyu Tolgoi contributed MNT1.1 trillion to the state budget of Mongolia. Since 2010, the company has paid a total of MNT12.5 trillion in taxes, fees, VAT to national companies, and other payments—significantly contributing to both national and local budgets.
Since 2010, MNT34.7 trillion has been spent on domestic procurement, continuously strengthening the national supply chain. This year, 33 of Oyu Tolgoi’s suppliers—who play a crucial role in supporting the mine’s continuous operations—have been included in the TOP-100 enterprises list.??
In 2024, Oyu Tolgoi’s skilled workforce successfully completed the development of Shaft 3 and Shaft 4—the world’s largest ventilation shafts—which are critical to the underground mine. Last month, for the first time in Mongolia, the company fully commissioned a conveyor system that transports ore from a depth of 1,300 meters to the surface. This infrastructure is not only vital in positioning Oyu Tolgoi as a world-leading copper mine, but also stands as a significant achievement built by Mongolian engineers using their expertise and knowledge.

Since 2015, Oyu Tolgoi has invested a total of MNT198.1 billion in local sustainable development projects in areas such as education, history, cultural heritage, and infrastructure.
Since 2010, a total of 1,130 students have received domestic and international scholarships. Additionally, 1,589 students and graduates have participated in our Graduate, Internship, Apprenticeship, and Pre-employment programmes—contributing significantly to the development of skilled future professionals.
Oyu Tolgoi uses three times less water per tonne of ore processed than similar international mining operations. On average, 87% of industrial water and 97% of domestic water is recycled. Since 2013, the company has paid a total of MNT198 billion in water usage fees.
Under the “100 Million Trees for the Future” programme, Oyu Tolgoi has made investments equivalent to more than 20 million trees into Mongolia’s forestry sector.
