The Netherlands, Breda - Dietsmann has been formally accepted as a participant of the United Nations Global Compact, the world's largest corporate citizenship and sustainability initiative. The UN Global Compact is both a corporate responsibility initiative and a strategic policy initiative for businesses that are committed to aligning their operations and strategies with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption.
Launched in 2000, the UN Global Compact now has nearly 9,000 corporate participants and other stakeholders in over 135 countries. Its objective is to engage businesses and other organizations in creating solutions for poverty, human rights abuses, environmental destruction and corruption. Member organizations contribute to the sustainable development of the global community by voluntarily practicing the 10 principles.
The UN Global Compact principles state that businesses should:
1. Support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights; and
2. Make sure that they are not complicit in human rights abuses;
3. Uphold the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining;
4. Uphold the elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labour;
5. Uphold the effective abolition of child labour; and
6. Uphold the elimination of discrimination with respect to employment and occupation;
7. Support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges;
8. Undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility; and
9. Encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies;
10. Work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery.
In line with its own business principles and corporate values, Dietsmann fully supports the ten principles of the Global Compact and will take every opportunity to advance those principles within its sphere of influence.
"It has always been my belief that the 'human factor' is the most important differentiator in conducting our business. Our ethics and the code of conduct we established for all our personnel more than two decades ago flowed from our belief that we could shape a great operation and maintenance services company based on strong business principles. This is why we decided to sign on to the United Nations Global Compact. By doing so, Dietsmann recognizes the importance and value of operating in an ethical, environmental, and socially responsible manner. As a signatory to the Compact, we will continue to contribute in every way we can towards building a sustainable society," said Peter Kutemann, Chairman and CEO of Dietsmann. "Our support for the UN Global Compact is a formal expression of our commitment to conducting our business while respecting these universal principles of human rights, workplace standards, responsible environmental practices and anti-corruption."
Dietsmann is fully committed to making the Global Compact and its principles part of its strategy, culture and day-to-day operations of its entire organization, including subsidiaries and suppliers. Dietsmann will also engage in collaborative projects that advance the broader development goals of the United Nations. Dietsmann will report regularly on its progress in implementing the 10 principles in its business and supply chain.
