Tokyo, Japan, May 20, 2011 ---The Teijin Group announced today that New York-based Teijin Holdings USA, Inc. (THUS), the group's holding company in the U.S., will provide reusable eco-bags made entirely with Teijin's recyclable polyester to the Japan Day Festival, which will take place in New York City's Central Park on Sunday, May 22.
THUS will provide the festival 600 eco-bags, which will be packaged with T-shirts that will be sold at the festival to raise disaster-relief funds.

The eco-bags bear the "GAMBARE! JAPAN" logo, the theme of this year's event to support Japan in the aftermath of the March 11 earthquake and tsunami. Gambare, sometimes translated as "try hard" or "keep trying," is a Japanese expression used to inspire and uplift people's spirits.

The eco-bags are made with Teijin's ECO CIRCLE FIBERS, chemically recycled fiber produced from used polyester products. At the end of their useful lives, the bags can be recycled by Teijin using the ECO CIRCLE closed-loop recycling system.

THUS has been providing eco-bags to Japan Day since 2008.

Launched in 2007, Japan Day builds bridges of cultural understanding between the people of Japan and the United States. More than 40,000 people attended the festival last year to enjoy Japanese cultural performances and attractions.
About ECO CIRCLE
Developed by Teijin Fibers Limited, a Teijin Group subsidiary, ECO CIRCLE is a closed-loop recycling system for used polyester products. The system employs the world's first technology for chemical recycling, which chemically decomposes polyester for conversion into new polyester raw materials that offer purity comparable to those derived from petroleum. Teijin cooperates with 145 registered apparel and sportswear manufacturers worldwide that share a commitment to promote progressive environmental activities for the development and manufacture of recyclable products, as well as collection and recycling of these products at the end of their useful lives. Compared to developing polyester materials from petroleum, this repeatable recycling system reduces energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 80% each.
About the Teijin Group
Based in Tokyo and Osaka, Japan, Teijin is a global technology-driven group operating in eight main fields: aramid fibers, carbon fibers & composites, polyester fibers, plastics, films, medical & pharmaceuticals, fiber products marketing and IT businesses. reactie XEA.nl
