Passenger
- 23.1% increase in traffic and 21.2% increase in capacity

- Comparison with April 2010 is not meaningful due to the closure of European airspace occasioned by the eruption of the Icelandic volcano. Moreover, April is the first month of the Summer 2011 program, which provides for a 5.7% increase in capacity.

Passenger business
Traffic rose by 23.1% for capacity up by 21.2%. The load factor gained 1.2 points to 81.2%. The group carried 6.36 million passengers (+28.0%). RASK recorded an increase, and forward bookings for the coming months remain on a positive trend.

On the Americas network traffic rose 26.3% for capacity up by 25.2%. the load factor gained one point to 86.0%.
Traffic on the Asia network rose 16.0% with capacity up 19.0%. The load factor fell 2.1 points to 81.4%, in particular due to the situation in Japan.
The Africa and Middle East network remains affected by geopolitical unrest. Traffic progressed by just 13.3% for capacity up by 16.7%, leading to a 2.3 point drop in load factor to 77.7%.
The Caribbean and Indian Ocean network remained dynamic, benefiting from a shift in tourism away from the Mediterranean basin. Traffic rose by 19.5% for a 13.0% rise in capacity. The load factor gained 4.5 points to the high level of 83.4%.
The European network was the most impacted by the European airspace closure in April last year, and recorded a rise in traffic of 35.1% for capacity up by 25.3%. The load factor gained 5.4 points to 75.2%.

Cargo
Cargo, less affected than passenger in 2010 by the airspace closure (traffic: -2.0%, capacities: -14.7%), saw a rise in traffic of 11.0% for capacity up by 15.6%, leading to a decline of 2.8 points to 67.7% in load factor which increased by nine points in April 2010. Unit revenue per available tonne kilometer (RATK) increased compared to April 2010, which recorded a strong rise on the back of the restrictions on capacity occasioned by the airspace closure.

Recent developments

Camiel Eurlings, Deputy CEO of Air France-KLM Cargo and Wim Kooijman, head of Human resources of KLM were appointed to the Executive Committee of Air France-KLM. Frank de Reij and Michael Wisbrun stood down from the Executive Committee, the latter to become Managing Director of the SkyTeam alliance.

On 22 April, an Airbus A380 operated by Air France made its maiden flight to Montreal (Canada).

Alitalia has signed a long-term contract for the support and maintenance of GE 90 engines which equip its Boeing 777 fleet and extended the support of equipment on its Boeing 777s with Air France Industries for the same period.
Air France opened two new routes in West Africa: Freetown, capital of Sierra Leone and Monrovia, capital of Liberia.
