The passenger and cargo activities remained in a positive track on November both in terms of traffic and unit revenues. November is the first month of the Winter Season, which should see a 3.3% rise in capacity of which 4.1% in long-haul and 0.5% in medium-haul.
Passenger business
Passenger traffic rose 4.3% during November, with capacity up by 2.9%, leading to a load factor up 1.1 points to 79.1%. The number of passengers stood at 5.68 million, up 4.7%. Unit revenue per available seat kilometer (RASK) excluding currency was up compared to November 2009.
On the Americas network, traffic was up 2.8% for capacity up 3.7%. The load factor declined by 0.7 points to 82.1%.
The Asia network remained dynamic; traffic (+6.8%) closely matched the increase in capacity (+6.4%), leading to a load factor of 83.1% (+0.3 points).
The Africa and Middle East network saw a moderate rise in capacity (+0.8%). Traffic was up 1.5%, and the load factor gained 0.6 points to 75.9%.
On the Caribbean and Indian Ocean network, traffic rose 2.6% for capacity up by 3.0%. The load factor stood at the high level of 83.9% (-0.4 points).
Traffic on the European network rose strongly (+6.7%) for slightly lower capacity (-0.6%). The load factor gained 4.8 points to 70.3%.
Cargo business
Cargo traffic rose 6.1% for capacity up 4.7%. The load factor gained 0.9 points to 72.6%. Unit revenue per available ton kilometer (RATK) excluding currency was strongly ahead of November 2009.
Recent developments
In November 2010, Garuda Indonesia and Aerolinas Argentinas each signed a protocol agreement to join the SkyTeam Alliance in 2012. The Alliance thereby strengthens its position in Southeast Asia and develops in Latin America.
