21 Sep 2016 --- The growing trend for health and wellness has resulted in an increasing demand for healthy products, as well as fortified foods, beverages and supplements. With an in-depth understanding of consumer behavior and a long history of presence in the Middle East region, DSM are launching a broad range of innovative, Halal solutions to answer the demand for better-for-you products.
To give its customers a competitive edge, DSM has recently unveiled new data on consumer health concerns in specific countries. For example, the survey found that 55% of the population in Egypt is concerned about protection against diseases in later life and 53% is concerned about weight. These insights, alongside scientific expertise, allow DSM to further support the development of the right products for people at different life stages. A recent DSM Global Insight Series report also shows that growing concerns over added sugar will pave the way for sugar-reduced dairy all over the world, including the Middle East.
DSM are set to launch solutions for salt reduction in baked goods and sugar reduction in dairy products to enable better food for everyone, freeze dried cultures are also a perfect fit for the challenging climate in many Middle Eastern countries.
Other solutions available from DSM are high performance coloration options, including for carmine replacement, and antioxidants to increase shelf life and address clean label concerns. DSM will also be launching its Halal vitamin D product forms to address one of the major micronutrient deficiencies in the region, with a recent study finding that 63% of females in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are deficient in vitamin D1.
DSM will present its proprietary consumer insights at this year’s Gulfood Manufacturing, to help tailor products to meet current and future needs in the Middle East.
