Bunge’s seventh non-deforestation progress report details our latest traceability efforts and commitment to transparent supply chains.

Bunge has achieved 91% traceability to direct source farms across areas facing high risk of deforestation in the Brazilian Cerrado. For Paraguay and Argentinean Chaco, 100% of traceability to direct source farms remains.

These areas encompass farms in the Cerrado region within the states of MATOPIBA (Maranhao, Tocantins, Piaui, and Bahia), plus the state of Mato Grosso. Additionally, Curuguaty (Paraguay) and the provinces of Chaco, Salta and Tucuman in Argentina were also monitored, accounting for a total of over 7,700 farms across 12.5 million hectares (30 million acres) of land.

“Bunge is committed to developing supply chains that are transparent, verifiable, and which create positive impacts on the ground,” says Rob Coviello, SVP Sustainability and Government Affairs. “Achieving a high traceability percentage in areas where agriculture is expanding is a valuable way to show our progress in understanding our footprint in these areas.”

Bunge plans to monitor over 8,500 direct sourcing farms during the next harvest seasons. Farms are kept on the monitoring database even when no longer conducting business with Bunge, as a means of checking for future relationship.

The seventh progress report also provides information on Bunge’s engagement with the multi-stakeholder platforms and projects, including the Soft Commodities Forum and the sustainable agriculture support tool, Agroideal.org, which was recently expanded to include Argentina’s Chaco region.

In addition to the grains & oilseeds progress report, we also publish the performance and activities for our palm oil supply chain through Bunge Loders Croklaan.

As a company with global operations, Bunge is committed to enhancing the transparency of our supply chain, particularly commodities like soy and palm oil. In 2015, Bunge committed to reach deforestation-free supply chains by 2020-2025.
